Where the Wild Things Are is a Caldecott Medal-winning children's picture book written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak.  It has become one of the most highly acclaimed and best-loved children's books of all time.

Where the Wild Things Are is about a boy named Max who puts on his wolf costume and makes mischief.  His mother calls him 'Wild Thing' and sends him to bed without any supper.  Alone in his room, Max enters a magical world and sets sail across the sea to an island inhabited by some beasts known as the "Wild Things."
